“Karwa Chauth” and other possible perspectives for celebrating this day

“Uncle Moon” has a special significance in the life of every mortal being on this planet. From Humans to Animals to Vegetation, each one of us is the direct or indirect beneficiary of the energy distributed by him. The gentle, reflective light of the moon represents the knowledge we find within ourselves. While the sun produces its own illumination during the day, the moon reflects light we otherwise wouldn’t see at night. That gentler glow symbolizes intuitive knowledge and gut feelings that comes
from within.

Different phases of moon nights across the year are a constant reminder of the changes in our life. It is also symbolic of femininity and motherhood. It is also associated with female Hindu deities as the moon is seen as a symbol of femininity, motherhood, and nurturing energy. The evening glow on a full moon day demonstrates the softness in its glow as against a much harsher and masculine energy distributed by SUN.

Majority of our Hindu festivals are celebrated to mark a significant win of good over evil and their arrival is linked with the onset of moon phases. Diwali is celebrated on a no moon day (Amawas ki raat) and Holi is celebrated on a full moon day. Other festivals like Sharad Poonam, Guru Purnima, Janmashatmi, etc., have some or the other connection with moon.

“Karwa Chauth” celebration, symbolizes, the deep love and commitment that married Hindu women have for their husbands. It is their way to express their devotion and desire for their husband’s wellbeing
and longevity. The day is an opportunity for couples to strengthen their marital bonds. Married men, who are travelling for work or who are temporarily stationed away from home, away from their wife, particularly our Indian Military, BSF, NSG and all others national heroes involved in the safety and security of our country, also miss their beloved wife with same gravity. However, it is this Uncle Moon which becomes a common bridge between the 2 souls and who illuminates the sky after a lot of waiting , allowing these souls to express their love and pray for the well-being of each other.

In my opinion, “Karwa Chauth”, is a not only a festival but is much more beyond that. It is a day full of energy in the sky, oozing out slowly from the hearts of millions of husbands and wife on this planet. The air we breathe is full of love, passion, care and warmth between lovely souls, temporarily away from each other but united with emotions until the final departure. It is actually a sacred Hindu festival of “Love”

~~ beyond limits, beyond boundaries.
